Useful in the diagnostic determination of hyperlipidemia, the Sebia LIPO assay is designed for the separation and quantitation of the major lipoprotein components found in serum. These include chylomicrons, beta lipoproteins or low density lipoproteins (LDL), pre-beta lipoproteins or very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), and alpha lipoproteins or high density lipoproteins (HDL). In addition to these lipoproteins, Lp(a) is also reproducibly separated from the other fractions and is found between the VLDL and HDL fractions. This lipoprotein is recognized today for its involvement in atherosclerosis and thrombotic diseases.
